Just Live.

It's been awhile since I posted anything and I felt today was a good day to be inspired. I decided that I would use one of my favourite movies as a starting point. If you have never seen 'It's Kind of a Funny Story', go out and buy/rent/borrow it now, you will not be disappointed (watch the trailer above). The illustration to the left is the book cover, created by Abigail Smith. I love the use of shape and colour. It's so eye catching who wouldn't want to pick this up off the shelf to see what it's about! The movie also features some great illustrations, by the artist Brain Drucker, and I have included some of his art below. So with both of these artists as my inspiration, I decided to go out and do some plein air painting, as to enjoy the beautiful summer sunshine.

For this painting, I used the skyline of Coney Island for my subject matter. I found some black and white photographs online for reference (pictured left). I wanted to feature Coney Island in this painting because it just says 'summer' to me. I also wanted to use bright and fun colours, and I thought this would be the perfect subject for that.

Below are the steps of my painting in progress. I'm not sure if it is quite finished yet, but I think I will abandon it for awhile and see how it looks in a few days with new eyes. I hope you enjoyed seeing my most recent artwork. Until next time!
